more than Online Marketing

What is a keyword matrix?

A keyword matrix is a structured pool of keywords and keyphrases people use to search for your website. The term 'matrix' reveals the fact that not only obvious keywords – for example product names – but also synonyms, variations and specifications such as long-tail phrases with 3 or more words in the phrase.

Much of the daily work of SEO – that is analyzing the rankings and hunting for links – involves working with the keyword matrix. The keyword matrix data is put into an analysis tool like e.g. B2Suite which will divide the list into several campaigns. At defined intervals, the analysis tools verify how a website is being ranked for each of the keywords in the keyword matrix. Then, the data is saved to create a history.

The living keyword matrix

A keyword matrix is never completed; it is always being added to. B2Suite for example automatically delivers new suggestions for search terms that have been used by people searching for and fit. In the course of time a huge collection of relevant search terms is created – it is very common for there to be thousands or even tens of thousands of terms collected in a keyword matrix.

While researching relevant keywords and creating a keyword matrix may seem like a simple task at first, it requires a good starting list, language skills, various SEO-tools, and above all analytical and creative thinking.
