Keyword Analysis

Keyword analysis is the key element of a successful Search Engine Optimization campaign.

Keyword analysis is the act of determining what keywords and keyphrases people will most likely use when performing a search for similar sites to your own. Sites that naturally filter to the top of a search engine result page – that is, results that are not a paid placement – are said to be in the “organic search results”. Keyword analysis is, therefore, the critical element to gain more traffic from organic search results. However, determining keywords that people use to find similar sites is not as easy as it may seem.

Keyword analysis begins with brainstorming. Answering questions such as “Who am I?”, “What do I offer?” or “Who are my clients?” generally reveals the first and the most relevant keywords. It is important to remember, the most important keywords are not necessarily the keywords you'd like to be listed for, the most important keywords are the ones people will actually type into search engines.

The goal is to figure out what words and phrases your potential customers use to search and customize your website to use those terms. In short, you are researching your customer's behavior. This takes time and detailed analysis with specialized tools. At the end of a keyword analysis there are many, maybe hundreds, of terms and phrases which will be able to generate relevant traffic to your website.

Keyword analysis...then what?

The keyword analysis and resulting keyword matrix is the basis of the organic optimization that follows. With analytic tools you will be able to see what position your website has for those keywords in search engines, as well as keep a historical record of that information. This will allow you to see positions of which website is being placed for which keyword at which position. The results will allow you to determine what measures need to be taken for low ranking keywords as well as how you can keep the results of your high ranked keyphrases.
